Testing on the 28th went very well, with Aaron and Hywel Lloyd setting the pace. Aaron had nothing to lose and everything to go for.
Qualifying on the morning of 29th saw Aaron claim an early P1 and hold this untill the 20 minute session was temporarily "Red Flagged" and stopped, on return to the track to finish the session when restarted, Aaron was straight back to the pits, with a loose floor tray causing some bodywork to destroy a rear tyre, the team worked hard to fix the problem, only to see Aaron return straight back to the pits with a broken gear cable, totally unconnected to the 1st incident.
The broken gear cable couldn't be fixed before the end of the qualifying session which saw Aaron drop to 10th position.
Round 12, the final round of the 2007 BARC Formula Renault Championship, proved to be another exciting race and once again Aaron showed he has the pace but not the luck!
Aaron made a storming start from Grid slot 10 and was 3rd by the end of lap one, hard on the back of Lloyd (CRS Racing ) & Hancock (Burdett Motorsport). Unfortunately, the race was halted and Red flagged due to an incident on lap 1 involving Bahrani Menashen Idafar (Russell Racing) rolling his car.
This brought about a total restart and re-grid of the remaining field, putting Aaron back to 10th on the grid. Such a shame after making such a fantastic start, however at the re-start Aaron made another excellent start, charging through to 5th from 10th on lap 1, hot in pursuit of Sten Pentus (Falcon Motorsport). Aaron quickly got past Pentus, and moved on to the back of Dean Stoneman (Alpine Motorsport) with Aaron collecting the fastest lap of the race at that stage.
Stoneman, with Championship hopes dwindling with Lioyd leading the pack, apparently decided that racing defensively was his only approach to all the pressure Aaron was putting upon him, to the point that Stoneman at times would appear to break the "one move" block rule.
Aaron was unable to find a way past the very wide car of Stoneman, and was incensed at having to settle for 4th. Although this was not a bad result from 10th, Aaron felt he had the pace to go all the way, and it was only compromised by Stoneman's questionable driving. Stoneman admitted after the race that he did not understand the rule's on what blocking is allowed!
The team were frustrated at the poor quality of the officials, and even though the team protested and Stoneman was hauled in front of the Clerk of the course, no action was taken.
4th place saw Aaron move up to a final standing of 5th in the Championship. Congratulations Aaron on a difficult and unlucky season!
